Raiders take overtime thriller against Lawrence

Junior forward Steven Shaffroth scored just over a minute into overtime as the MSOE hockey team defeated Lawrence 4-3 Friday night at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. Shaffroth's game-winner was assisted by senior forward Kyle Smith.
Smith started the scoring in the first period with a goal from senior forward Mike Pao and junior defenseman Devin Schmitt. Early in the second, Rudi Pino tied the game for the Vikings on a power play. Just a minute later, Phil Bushbacher put Lawrence on top for the first time.
The Vikings' lead didn't last long as senior forward Jordan Keizer picked up a power play goal from junior defenseman Michael Thompson and freshman forward Cody Gancher. Lawrence grabbed the lead again at the 6:02 mark of the second on a short-handed tally by Brad Scurfield.
The Raiders tied the game at 3 when senior forward Bradley Tierney was set up by Pao just three minutes into the third period. No one scored until Shaffroth got the winner in overtime.
Freshman goalie Nick Kohn made 31 saves in the victory. The Raiders (10-5-1, 7-3-1 MCHA) face the Vikings again Saturday night in Appleton, Wis. at 7 p.m.
