No. 8 MSOE hockey edged by St. Mary's in overtime


The No. 8 Raiders tied the game late in the third period but the Cardinals answered back in overtime to win the non-conference game 2-1 Tuesday night in Winona, Minn. 

After two scoreless periods, Austin Balko scored for the Cardinals at the 8:27 mark of the third to make it 1-0. At the 16:28 mark, freshman forward Cole Gibson tied the game with a power play goal assisted by sophomore forward West Bauman. Bob Marx buried the game-winner at 2:50 of overtime to beat the Raiders.

Senior goalie Connor Toomey made 26 saves for MSOE. Toomey passed Matt Burzon for the MSOE career record for saves. The Raiders outshot the Cardinals 29-28 on the night.

MSOE (5-2, 5-1 MCHA) again faces St. Mary's Wednesday with the puck scheduled to drop at 2:30 p.m.
