MSOE women's basketball takes down Edgewood 62-53

Senior center Carol Cayo scored 17 points while senior guard Marguerite Wellstein put in 14 points as the Raiders defeated Edgewood 62-53 Saturday afternoon at the Kern Center in Northern Athletics Conference action. For MSOE, it snaps an 18-game losing streak against the Eagles which dates back to the 2000-01 season.
Cayo also had nine rebounds, two assists and two blocks while Wellstein pulled down seven rebounds, had three assists and two steals. Senior guard Kathleen Collingbourne and junior guard Cate Scholfield each knocked down two three-pointers for the Raiders. Sophomore forward Shannon Larson scored seven points, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked three shots.
MSOE led 48-44 with 5:02 left in the game then went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 12 points and the Raiders would put it away from there. The rebounding battle went MSOE's way, 43 to 34.
The Raiders (8-4, 5-1 NAC) play at Rockford Tuesday night at 7 p.m. to continue conference action.
