Raiders selected to win NAC men's golf title


WAUKESHA, Wis. – The MSOE men's golf has been picked to win the Northern Athletics Conference title according to the 2011 preseason coaches' poll. The Raiders received five first-place and 93 total points while Edgewood received 92 points in the poll for second.

MSOE was the NAC's automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division III Championship last season. The Raiders finished eight strokes ahead of the Eagles after scores were combined between the fall NAC Championship and the spring AQ meet. MSOE trailed Edgewood by 11 strokes heading into the AQ meet. The Raiders finished 25th at the national event.

The Raiders are led by senior Dane Zachman who was the medalist at the conference's automatic qualifier event. Zachman had the best 18-hole average in the NAC last season at 75.6 in 25 rounds.

MSOE's first meet of the fall season is the Edgewood Invite Sept. 2-3 at the Glen Erin Golf Course in Janesville, Wis. The NAC Championship is Oct. 9-10 at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. The scores of that event will be combined with the spring AQ meet at Stonebridge Country Club in Aurora, Ill. in April will determine who represents the NAC at the NCAA Division III Championship.
