MSOE wrestling earns two wins at Gulf Coast Duals

The MSOE wrestling team picked up victories against Concordia-Wisconsin and Southern Maine at the Florida Gulf Coast Duals in Fort Myers, Fla. Sunday.
The Raiders fell to Central 19-16 in the team's first dual of the day. The Dutchmen are one of the top wrestling programs in the Midwest. The two teams split the individual match wins right down the middle with each side collecting five wins apiece. The point difference came down to a fall in favor of Central's Jake Crawford over sophomore Austin Karls at 285. MSOE collected wins from freshman Luke Gaeth (125), junior Austin Binish (133), junior Matt Ostovich (141), freshman Peter Koostra (165) and junior Caleb Staub (184).
MSOE was droppd by Buena Vista (Iowa) 22-13. At 133 pounds, Binish earned a major decision over BVU's Mike Berandesco 9-1. MSOE followed with wins from sophomore Dallas Schurg (141), Koostra and Staub to lead the Raiders past BVU.
Up next for MSOE was Concordia-Wisconsin who the Raiders beat 27-11. Staub, Karls, Gaeth, Schurg, junior Josh Wengerter (157), Koostra and freshman William Pedersen (174) all picked up wins against the Falcons. Staub won by fall against Seth Kilkelly while Gaeth, Wengerter and Pederson each won by major decision.
To end the day, the Raiders defeated Southern Maine 23-16. Rokosh, junior Steve Nguyen (285), Gaeth, Ostovich, Koostra and Staub were victorious in that dual. Rokosh picked up a win via fall and Staub won by technical fall.
MSOE is back in action at the MBBC Duals in Watertown, Wis. Saturday, Jan. 7.
