Binish pins his way to third at regional; Qualifies for NCAA III Wrestling Championships

At the NCAA Division West Regional, 133 pound Austin Binish placed third to qualify for the NCAA Championships to be held March 15-16 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids Iowa.

Binish did it the hard way, losing his first match of the day in the quarterfinals to Mason Bohm of UW Platteville, pinned 1:17 into the match.

Binish turned his luck around in the consolation brackets, pinning his way to third place.In the second round of Consolation bracket, Binish won by pin (6:32) over David Rosenau of UW-Oshkosh. In the next round Binish continued his pinning ways, a 1:30 pin over Nichola Chrisner of St. Olaf. In the Consy Semifinals, Binish scored a pin (2:20) over Eric Harder of Pacific.

In the third place match and a chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships, Binish won by pin over Dalton Sowers of St. Johns with a time of 2:29.

Other outstanding finishes for MSOE include a heartbreaking 11-4 loss for Matt Ostovich to Tom Kuehn of Augsburg in the third place match in the 141# class. Dallas Schurg placed sixth at 149#, losing by pin (2:41) to Carl Ulmer of St. Olaf. 

The Raiders placed 10th of 12 teams at the West Regional. Host Augsburg won the meet with 143.5 points, followed by Concordia-Moorhead (133.0) and St. John’s (Minn.) with 127.0 points.
