Hosko, Vanek named First Team All-NAC

MILWAUKEE - Seniors Dan Hosko and Michael Vanek were named First Team All-Northern Athletics Conference for their performance during the 2011 men's soccer season. Senior defender Matt Keating and sophomore forward Patrick Gathof were selected Second Team All-NAC. Senior defender Ben Sprecher earned Honorable Mention status from the conference while freshman goalkeeper Garret Farin made the All-Freshman Team. Senior goalie Jon Cerny was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Hosko was recently named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for District 6. He is an architectural engineering major with a 3.77 GPA. Hosko led the conference in goals (11), assists (9) and points (31). The nine assists tie a MSOE record which is also held by MSOE Hall of Famer Jon Phillips (1998) and Hosko who had nine in 2010 as well. His 11 goals are tied for the fourth most in school history and his 31 points are tied for third. In his career, Hosko logged 22 goals and 21 assists along with 65 points.

Vanek and Gathof each had six goals on the year. Keating and Sprecher helped the Raiders record five shutouts from their defensive positions. Farin was credited with three of those shutouts and had a goals against average of 1.07.

MSOE made it all the way to the NAC title game before falling to Dominican 4-0. The Raiders shut out Concordia-Wisconsin 2-0 in the semifinals to reach the championship. Hosko and junior Mat Braden recorded the two goals for MSOE in that game against the Falcons. In the first round of the NAC Tournament, Hosko scored both of the team's goals in a 2-1 victory over Benedictine. The Raiders ended the season with a 12-8-1 overall record and went 8-3 in NAC play.
