Heller sets MSOE record in mile run at Spartan Open

The MSOE track & field team took part in the Spartan Open in Dubuque, Iowa Saturday. Both the men's and women's squads finished in fifth place.
Senior Amanda Heller broke junior Anete Zagare's school record in the mile run as she finished first with a time of 5:37.51. Juniors Kate Herrmann (5:48.91) and Holly Phelps (5:52.71) were seventh and eighth in that race. Heller came in second in the 3000-meter run at 11:28.37 while Herrman (11:43.44) was fourth and Phelps was seventh (11:57.22). Zagare placed eighth in the 800-meter run at 2:34.14.
Sophomore Trevor Koziczkowski took the top spot in the 5000-meter run at 16:50.16. Senior Arthur Weborg garnered a third place finish in the triple jump at 13.02 meters and placed fourth at 6.39 meters in the long jump. Junior Jake Schneider had a time of 4:41.56 in the mile run to finish sixth. Also placing sixth in the 3000-meter run was freshman Brian Janus at 9:21.86 and junior Patrick DuBois was sixth in the weight throw at 14.9 meters.
Sophomore Matt Cosentino ended up seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.8 meters and was eighth in the pole vault at 3.75 meters. Sophomore Matt Waech had three top ten finishes on the day which were in the 200-meter dash (ninth - 23.40), the 400-meter dash (eighth - 52.43) and pole vault (ninth - 3.75 meters).
The Raiders will compete in Stevens Point, Wis. Friday, Feb. 3 and in Kenosha, Wis. Saturday, Feb. 4.
