Hermann Receives CoSIDA Academic All-American Women’s Soccer Team Honors

MSOE women’s soccer player Kate Hermann (Sycamore, Ill./ Sycamore H.S.) has been named to the Capital One / CoSida Academic All American First Team for women’s soccer. She was a CoSida All District First Team selection in 2011-12

A senior midfielder, Hermann started in all 21 games played and had ten assists on  the season. Herman led MSOE to a 7-5 Northern Athletics Conference record, 11-9-1 overall. She becomes the school’s 12th Academic All-American, the most recent being Emily Dieringer in Track & Field in 2011-2012. Hermann is the school’s third Academic All-American in the past two years.

Former MSOE student-athletes making the CoSIDA Academic All-American team includes the following: Jeff Brezovar (Men’s Basketball: 1982, 1983), Rachel Eggebrecht (Women’s At-Large, Cross Country: 1999), Matthew Schoenerr (Men’s At-Large, Wrestling: 2004), Matt Hopf (Men’s Basketball: 2004),  Brian Soik (Men’s At-Large, Ice Hockey: 2006-2007), Spencer Cook (Men’s Soccer: 2007), Joel VandeBoom (Men’s At-Large, Wrestling: 2009), Austin Meier (Men’s Basketball: 2010, 2011), Women’s Basketball (Carol Cayo: 2011, 2012) and Emily Dieringer (Women’s At-Large, Cross-Country, Track and Field: 2012).

To be eligible for Academic All-American honors, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. They must first be chosen as a first team All-District selection to move into consideration for Academic All-American.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
