Axt named NAC Offensive Player of the Year


MILWAUKEE - Senior forward Jessica Axt  was named Northern Athletics Conference Offensive Player of the Year for her outstanding performance during the 2011 women's soccer season. Axt was also named First Team All-NAC. Senior midfielder Jamie Janczak and sophomore forward Paula Bohl were selected Second Team All-NAC.

Junior goalie Emma Lumpe earned Honorable Mention status from the conference. Freshmen Shelby Struble and Gabbie Pung were named to the All-Freshman Team. Sophomore Allison Zimont was chosen to the All-Sportsmanship Team.

Axt currently is tied for the national lead in goals and stands second in points. She finished her four-year career with 76 goals, which is the most in MSOE and NAC history. Axt's 28 goals and 62 points are single season MSOE records. Janczak stands fifth in all of Division III in assists. She led the NAC with 14 assists and finished her career with 38 assists. The 14 assists by Janczak tie a single season school record which was set by senior Mindy Donald in 2008. Axt and Janczak played together at Germantown High School.

Bohl recorded 11 goals and seven assists during the season. Lumpe logged six shutouts with a goals against average of 0.96. Struble started 20 games on defense and played in all 21 games as she helped the Raiders hold opponents to 22 goals on the year. Pung scored ten goals and had seven assists on the year.

MSOE had their best season ever as they set a new record for wins in a year with 13, breaking the record of 12 wins, which was set in 2008. The Raiders left their mark in the NAC Tournament as they defeated Concordia-Wisconsin 1-0 in the first round before falling to top seed Aurora 3-2 in the semis. The Raiders finished the season with a 13-8 overall record and had a 9-3 mark in conference play.
