Montenegro reaches finals at NAC Individual Tournament while Raiders fall in team championship

Senior Juan Montenegro reached the finals of the singles championship in the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Tennis Individual Tournament. The competition took place at the Kohler Sports Core in Kohler, Wis. this weekend. Brian Tresseder of Concordia-Wisconsin won that final match 6-0, 6-0. Montenegro was seeded fourth going into the event. He logged wins over Sam Medina-Cochi of Rockford and Dominican's Alex Dee and Kevin Amarantos. His semifinal victory came against Lee Johnson of Wisconsin Lutheran 7-5, 6-0.
Sophomore Eric Klamrowski went 1-1 in the tournament with a victory over Max Divelbiss of Edgewood in the second round 6-4, 6-2. Klamrowski and Montenegro teamed up to make the semifinals in doubles competition. They went 2-1 as they lost to Dominican 8-6 in the semis. The doubles pairing of senior Jeff Scarpelli and junior Nick Matsuura picked up one victory and fell in the quarterfinals to Concordia-Wisconsin.
In the NAC Team Tournament, the Raiders knocked off Edgewood 5-1 Friday in the semifinals. Montenegro, Klamrowski and Scarpelli each won in singles action. Klamrowski and Montrenegro and freshmen Zachary Dam and Matthew Slaughter were victorious in doubles play. MSOE was defeated by Concordia-Wisconsin 5-1 in the championship match of the NAC Team Tournament. Scarpelli and Matsuura picked up the lone victory for the Raiders against the Falcons.
