Herrmann named to Capital One Academic All-District First Team

MILWAUKEE - MSOE women's soccer junior defender Kate Herrmann has been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for District 6. The teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Herrmann is a biomedical engineering major with a 4.00 GPA. She now becomes eligible to be selected as an Academic All-American, which will be announced later this month. The teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Herrmann helped the Raiders win a school-record 13 games during the 2011 season, surpassing the mark set in 2008. MSOE recorded ten shutouts during this season. She started all 21 games as the Raiders reached the semifinals of the Northern Athletics Conference tournament. MSOE defeated Concordia-Wisconsin 1-0 in the first round of the NAC Tournament before falling to top seed Aurora 3-2 in the semis. The Raiders finished the season with a 13-8 overall record and had a 9-3 mark in conference play.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the first year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
