Andryk named Soccer All-American

Kansas City, Kan. – MSOE freshman forward Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis./Milwaukee-Marquette University High School) has been named to the NCAA Division III All-America third team announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Andryk becomes the first MSOE men’s soccer player to earn that distinction.

Andryk, one of only three freshmen nationwide to receive All-American honors, has made a great impact on the MSOE offense. In just his first season as a Raider, he had 14 goals, 9 assists and 37 points for the season. His 14 goals for the season, put him among MSOE elite; fifth in goals per season behind teammate Jordan Werner (23 goals -2012) and Jeff Stoxen (17-1997, 16-1998, 15-1999). He is third in total points in a single season with 37, tied with Stoxen (1997), behind only Werner (55 points, 2012) and Stoxen (40-1998). He is tied with three others as the school’s single season leader in assists.

He is also ranked among the NCAA leaders in several categories; total assists (T-33rd, 9), total points (31st, 37) points per game (30th, 1.85), assists per game (44th, 0.45) total goals (35th, 14) and 49th in the nation, averaging 0.70 goals per game.

Andryk garnered many honors in 2012 including being named the Northern Athletics Conference Freshman of the Year and a first team all conference selection. In 2011, he was a High School All-State selection on Milwaukee Marquette’s state championship team, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel First Team All-Area selection and participated in FC Milwaukee’s United States Soccer Development Academy, run by the U.S. National Team.

Among MSOE greats, Andryk becomes the eighth NCAA All American in the school’s history. MSOE All Americans include: Catherine Chappell (women’s basketball, outdoor orack), Rachel Eggebrecht (indoor and outdoor track), Carol Cayo, (women’s basketball) Matt Huset (wrestling),  Matt Schoenerr (wrestling), Brian Soik (hockey), Connor Toomey (twice, hockey). Jeff Brezovar and Brian Guerts were NAIA All Americans in men’s basketball at MSOE.

MSOE captain Pat Gathof believes Andryk is the consummate team player. “His skill and ability on and off the ball are what make him a great individual player; but his communication, willingness to learn as well as teach, and desire to win are what make him an invaluable team player.”

MSOE Head Coach Jimmy Banks, a former US World Cup player stated, “Logan (Andryk) has exceeded all expectations in his freshman year. He's a quality soccer player and has a great attitude to go with it.”

Andryk, who was also a first team All Central Region selection, led MSOE to 14-5-1 overall record and 8-2-1 finish in the Northern Athletics Conference. He is a biomolecular engineering major with a 3.96 grade point average. His parents are Mr. Steve and Dr. Jolene Andryk of Hartland, Wis.

Andryk and his fellow NSCAA All-Americans will be recognized Saturday, Jan. 19 at the annual All-America Luncheon, held in conjunction with the 2013 NSCAA Convention in Indianapolis.
