Cayo reaches 1,500-point mark in win over Lake Forest

Senior center Carol Cayo knocked down two free throws with 1:27 left in Thursday's game to hit 1,500 career points in her time at MSOE. The Raiders defeated Lake Forest 58-39 in the non-conference game at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.

Cayo is the third player in MSOE history to reach the 1,500-point mark. Catherine Chappell (1,790) and Shari Gorr-Hess (1,535) are the other players to accomplish that feat in an Raider uniform. Cayo is the Northern Athletics Conference and MSOE all-time leader in both rebounding and blocks.

For the game, Cayo put in 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Also scoring 12 points for MSOE was senior guard Marguerite Wellstein. Junior forward Shannon Larson logged 11 points and nine rebounds.

The Raiders trailed by as many as five in the first half but went into halftime on a 23-8 run to take a ten-point advantage in the break. In the second half, the Foresters couldn't pull any closer than seven as MSOE had a double digit lead much of the final 20 minutes.

Next up for the Raiders (15-7, 11-4 NAC) is Concordia-Chicago Saturday at 2 p.m. in River Forest, Ill. MSOE is tied with Dominican for the top spot in the Northern Athletics Conference South Division with two games left to play. The Raiders hold the tie breaker over the Stars as they swept the season series 2-0.
