Raiders compete at NAC Outdoor Championships


MSOE took part in the Northern Athletics Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. The Raiders placed sixth on the men's side with 81 points and the women's squad finished seventh with 55 points. Friday's events took place at the Benedictine Sports Complex in Lisle, Ill. while the scene shifted to the Concordia Stadium in River Forest, Ill. Saturday.

Senior Emily Dieringer won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.19 seconds. She was second in the 100-meter dash at 12.73 seconds and also second in the 100-meter hurdles event at 15.59 seconds. Also garnering a second place finish was junior Kate Herrmann in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a mark of 11:59.33. In the 5000-meter run, Herrmann finished third as she had a time of 19:21.82. Dieringer competed in the pole vault and placed third at 2.88 meters.

Junior Anete Zagare came in sixth in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:30.97 while junior Holly Phelps placed eighth in the 1500-meter run (5:17.25). Freshman Marly Trier was sixth in the javelin throw at 29.94 meters and seventh in the discus throw with a toss of 31.68 meters.

Sophomore Mike Cosentino (1.95 meters) and Nathan Verdun (1.90 meters) took the top two sports in the high jump. Cosentino's mark is a new NAC Outdoor Championships record. Sophomore Matt Waech (4.25 meters) and senior Eric Doubet (3.95 meters) came in second and third in the pole vault while Cosentino (3.80 meters) was fifth. In the long jump, senior Arthur Weborg came in third at 6.53 meters and Weborg was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.37 meters. He also was seventh in the javelin throw at 42.32 meters.

Junior Patrick DuBois came in fourth in the discus throw at 40.59 meters and was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.41 meters. Junior James Franke (400-meter hurdles, 59.04 seconds) and freshman Brian Janus (3000-meter steeplechase, 10:16.41) both picked up fourth place finishes.

Junior Ben Peterson ran a time of 2:00.72 to come in sixth in the 800-meter run and sophomore Steven Grousnick was also sixth in the 1500-meter run at 4:07.49. Freshman Jonathon Anthony and senior Tim Lang placed back-to-back in the 110-meter hurdles in sixth and seventh, respectively. In the relay events, the Raiders came in sixth (4X100-meter relay) and eighth (4X400-meter relay).
