No. 12 MSOE hockey gets past Lake Forest in road MCHA battle

The No. 12 Raiders finished off a weekend sweep of Lake Forest with a 4-3 victory Saturday night in Lake Forest, Ill. Freshman forward Josh Keizer's third period short-handed goal ended up being the game-winner for MSOE. Senior goalie Connor Toomey made 25 saves to earn his 50th career win. Toomey holds the school record for victories.

Junior forward Mike Pao started the game's scoring with a goal at the 10:49 mark of the first period. That goal was assisted by sophomore forward Steven Shaffroth and sophomore defenseman Devin Schmitt. The Foresters tied the game a few minutes later.

In the final three minutes of the period, sophomore forward Ben Lauder and junior defenseman Nathan Brunk found the back of the net for the Raiders. Lauder's goal was assisted by freshman forward Kevin LoGiudice while Brunk's power play goal was set up by freshman defenseman Logan Bauman and sophomore forward West Bauman.

No scoring took place in the second period while Keizer's goal came at the 4:13 mark of the third from Brunk and Logan Bauman. Lake Forest scored two power play goals later in the period but could not tie the contest.

The Raiders (8-2, 7-1 MCHA) play two non-conference games next weekend in Minnesota. This Friday night, MSOE faces Saint John's at 7 p.m. then takes on Bethel Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m.
