MSOE women's basketball ties records in win over Benedictine


Senior Carol Cayo put in 19 points and grabbed ten rebounds as the Raiders beat Benedictine 69-59 Wednesday night at the Kern Center in Northern Athletics Conference action. The win ties the MSOE record for victories (13) in a season and the school record for conference wins (10). Cayo also had five steals, four blocks and four assists. She now has 12 double-doubles on the year.

The Raiders got out to an 11-point lead in the first half but the Eagles battled back to take a 38-32 advantage into halftime. The second half was all MSOE as the Raiders started the final 20 minutes with a 17-2 run.

Sophomore forward Shannon Larson had 12 points while senior guards Marguerite Wellstein and Kathleen Collingbourne each scored 11 points. All three pulled down four rebounds while senior forward Jamie Janczak logged eight rebounds. Wellstein also doled out six assists.

MSOE (13-6, 10-3 NAC) leads the South Division of the NAC and they host the leader of the North Division, Wisconsin Lutheran, Saturday at 2 p.m.
