Three Raider wrestlers place at Great Lakes Regional

Three MSOE wrestlers finished in the top six in their weight classes at the NCAA Division III Great Lake Regional Saturday in Minneapolis hosted. The Raiders placed ninth with 41 points out of 15 teams. MSOE was the top finisher among Northern Wrestling Association teams.
Junior Austin Binish and sophomore Austin Karls were named reserves for the NCAA Division III National Championships. Binish was MSOE's top finisher as he came in fourth place at 133 pounds. He had a 2-2 record on the day including two wins via pins. Karls placed fifth in the heavyweight class with a record of 4-2. Out of his four victories, three were by pin with times of 6:40, 0:18 and 0:45.
Freshman Peter Kootstra came in sixth place at 165 pounds. Kootstra logged a record of 3-2 including a pin in 50 seconds against Nicholas Schuler of Saint John's.
In addition to the 32 automatic qualifiers determined on Saturday, two additional qualifiers from the Great Lakes Region to the national championships will be announced Monday. These two qualifiers are part of 10 additional qualifiers nationally added to the national tournament to make sure that each weight class has at least 16 wrestlers. A total of 170 wrestlers will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships.
