MILWAUKEE -- After the first successful "Red Rivalry" game in women's basketball last January, Alverno College and Milwaukee School of Engineering will add a Red Rivalry Cup for women's soccer beginning this season.
The name for the traveling trophy and game came from the parallel in both teams' colors and is the same used for basketball.
In addition to the crosstown rivalry--the two institutions are a mere seven miles apart in the city of Milwaukee--and the conference rivalry--both are members of the Northern Athletics Conference--the teams will now play for the Red Rivalry Cup for the first time on October 8.
The site of the Red Rivalry game will be determined by the conference schedule, with this season's game at Alverno Field on Milwaukee's south side and next season's game at MSOE. Any additional postseason meetings will not factor into which team holds the trophy.
The Saturday, October 8, game is scheduled for a 3 p.m. kickoff, with the presentation of the Red Rivalry Cup at the conclusion of the game.
The game and presentation of the trophy will be webcast live via athletics.alverno.edu.
