No. 6 MSOE hockey drops NCAA tournament debut against Gustavus Adolphus


In the program's first-ever NCAA tournament game, the No. 6 Raiders fell to No. 8 Gustavus Adolphus 3-1 Wednesday night in St. Peter, Minn. The Gusties move on to face St. Norbert in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Championship. MSOE ends the 2011-12 campaign with a record of 22-7-1. The 22 wins are program record for the Raiders. Senior goalie Connor Toomey made 28 saves in his final game as at MSOE. 

Senior forward Todd Krupa scored a power play goal at the 6:41 mark of the first period as MSOE took a 1-0 lead. Krupa's goal was assisted by junior defenseman Nathan Brunk and sophomore forward Mike Pao. Less than two minutes later, Ross Ring-Jarvi tied the game at 1.

The game remained tied until the four-minute mark of the second period when Ryan Johnson gave Gustavus the lead for good with a power play tally. Nate Paulsen added an empty-netter with three seconds left in the third period to seal the victory for the Gusties.

The Raiders went 1-6 on the power play while Gustavus was 1-4. Each team logged six shots while playing with an advantage. The Gusties outshot MSOE 31-17 on the night.
