MSOE's Cayo named Academic All-District First Team

MILWAUKEE - Senior center Carol Cayo (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) has been named to the Capital One Women's Basketball Academic All-District First Team for District 6. This is the third straight season that Cayo has received this honor. Now, Cayo is eligible to be selected as an Academic All-America honoree which will be selected later this month. Last season, she was named Academic All-America Second Team. Cayo is an industrial engineering major with a 3.98 grade point average. The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) makes the selections which recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

Earlier this season, Cayo became the first player in Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) history to reach 1,000 rebounds in a career. She is the all-time leader in rebounds and blocks in NAC and MSOE history. Cayo was named First Team All-NAC the past two seasons and was selected NAC Freshman of the Year during the 2008-09 season.

Wednesday night, the Raiders (13-6, 10-3 NAC) defeated Benedictine 69-59 to tie the MSOE records for wins in a season (13) and conference victories (10). MSOE hosts Wisconsin Lutheran at 2 p.m. Saturday in Milwaukee at the Kern Center.

The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
