MSOE hockey hits road to face Gustavus Adolphus Wednesday in first round of NCAA tournament

MSOE hockey will start the NCAA Division III Championship on the road with a first round game against Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter, Minn. Wednesday at 7 p.m. This is the first appearance in the NCAA tournament for the Raiders. MSOE defeated Adrian 4-3 Sunday afternoon in Adrian, Mich. to win the MCHA Harris Cup. Junior forward Jordan Keizer scored the game-winning goal in overtime against the Bulldogs.
The field of 11 teams for the tournament was announced Sunday night at ncaa.com. The Raiders are led by Jordan Keizer and senior goalie Connor Toomey who were both named MCHA All-Conference. Both were also selected to the MCHA All-Tournament Team while Jordan Keizer was named MVP. Jordan Keizer leads all of Division III with seven short-handed goals and seven game-winning goals and is second nationally in both points (45) and goals (23). Toomey is seventh in the county with a 1.98 goals against average and is tied for fourth with three shutouts.
For Gustavus Adolphus, this will be their sixth NCAA tournament appearance and their first since the 2009-10 season. The Gusties won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament to earn the conference's automatic berth. Gustavus Adolphus beat St. Olaf 4-2 this past Saturday to earn their bid.
The tournament includes three first round games and four quarterfinal matchups which will take place at campus arenas. The teams that win the quarterfinal games will advance to Lake Placid, N.Y. at Herb Brooks Arena where the semifinals and title game will be played.
