Fond du Lac, Wis. - Despite holding a 15-10 shot advantage, the MSOE Raiders (2-1-1, 1-1-0 Northern Athletics Conference) endured their first conference loss of the season with a 2-1 decision to the Marian Sabres (1-3-0, 1-1-0 NAC). Marian tickled the twine twice in the first period and entered the half with a 2-0 advantage. They tallied their first goal in the 13th minute on a finish by Jayde Koeune from a Brittany Syms feed. In the 32nd Minute Laura Maly finished what proved to be winner unassisted.
In the second period, the Raiders got a goal back on an unassisted strike in the 67th minute by Natalie Gayner (Whitefish, Mont./ Whitefish H.S.). It was her second finish in the past two matches. Unfortunately, the Raiders could not equalize despite a myriad of opportunities. Maureen Thompson (Grayslake, Ill./ Carmel), Paula Bohl (Muskego, Wis./ Muskego), Anna O’Donnell (Plainfield, Ill. / North), Caitlin Liddiard (Waukesha, Wis. / South) and Gayner produced chances in the last twenty minutes of the game, only to be denied by Marian goaltender Caitlyn Rosenberger.
MSOE will see action again this Friday evening when they host Carthage College for a 7:00p.m. Kickoff at Time Warner Cable Stadium at Uihlein Soccer Park.
