Big third period lifts No. 12 MSOE hockey past Lake Forest 9-3

The No. 12 Raiders scored six goals in the third period as MSOE beat Lake Forest 9-3 Friday night in MCHA action at the Kern Center in Milwaukee. Junior forward Bradley Tierney scored two goals and had an assist in the victory.
The lone goal in the first period was netted by junior forward Jordan Keizer at the 15:49 mark. The Foresters took the lead with back-to-back power play goals in the second period. MSOE answered with goals from Tierney and sophomore forward Ben Lauder as the Raiders went on top again 3-2 late in the period.
Lake Forest once again tied the game at 3 as Jason McAloon had his second goal of the contest at the 5:46 mark of the third period. Tierney put MSOE on top for good this time just about three minutes later. Less than 35 seconds after Tierney's goal, freshman forward Cole Gibson scored his eighth goal of the season.
Senior forward Todd Krupa and sophomore defenseman Michael Thompson made it 7-3 Raiders with goals within a minute of each other. Sophomore forward West Bauman and senior forward Kyle Smith finished the scoring with goals in the final two minutes.
Freshman defenseman Logan Bauman recorded three assists while junior defenseman Nathan Brunk had two assists on the night as did Thompson. Senior goalie Connor Toomey made 19 saves in the victory.
MSOE (7-2, 6-1 MCHA) heads to Illinois Saturday to face the Foresters at 7:30 p.m.
