Hosko named to Academic All-America First Team

Senior midfielder Dan Hosko joins ten others on the 2011 Capital One Academic All-America Men's Soccer NCAA Division III First Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Hosko was named Academic All-District Second Team in 2010. He is the eleventh MSOE student-athlete to receive this prestigious award.
Hosko carries a 3.77 grade point average and is an architectural engineering major. He led the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) in goals (11), assists (9) and points (31). The nine assists tied a MSOE record which is also held by MSOE Hall of Famer Jon Phillips (1998) and Hosko who had nine in 2010 as well. His 11 goals are tied for the fourth most in school history and his 31 points are tied for third. Hosko finished the season ranked 32nd and 37th among all NCAA Division III players in assists and assists per game, respectively. Also, he was a First Team All-NAC selection. During the 2010 season, Hosko was named First Team All-NAC and Third Team All-Central Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. In his career, Hosko logged 22 goals and 21 assists along with 65 points.
"Dan Hosko is a very bright student and it carries on the field of play with his excellent decision making as an attacking player," said MSOE head coach Jimmy Banks. "To his credit, he's very humble and keeps a level head about his accomplishments. He's a great leader and leads by example."
Hosko and the Raiders reached the NAC championship before falling to Dominican 4-0 in the title game, held in River Forest, Ill. MSOE shut out Concordia-Wisconsin 2-0 in the semifinals to reach the final game. Hosko recorded one of the two goals for the Raiders in that game against the Falcons. In the first round, Hosko scored both of MSOE's goals in a 2-1 victory over Benedictine. The Raiders ended the season with a 12-8-1 overall record and went 8-3 in NAC play. MSOE started their NAC season with six straight wins.
To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
