Three Wrestlers claim titles at Northern Wrestling Association championships; team places third

Watertown, Wis. – THE MSOE wrestling team came away with three individual champions, but placed third in the team standings at the Northern Wrestling Association Championships Saturday afternoon in Watertown Wisconsin. The Concordia-Wisconsin, won the tournament with 97.5 points, followed by Lakeland (NWCA co-champions with MSOE in 2012) with 86.5, and MSOE scoring 68 point for a third place finish in the five-team event.

Sophomore Nick Miceli had an 8-2 decision over teammate Austin Binish in the final of the 133-pound weight class to claim the title. At 141#, senior Matt Ostovich won in double overtime over Marcus McCauley of Lakeland by the score of 9-7.   Junior Dallas Schurg retained his title at 157, defeating Matt Weber of Lakeland 11-3.

Besides Binish, sophomore Luke Gaeth was the other MSOE wrestler to finish in second place. Wrestling at 125#, Geath lost a decision 9-4 to Sean Ambrocio of Concordia-Wisconsin in the final.

The Outstanding wrestler of the tournament went to Greg Sanders of Concordia-Wisconsin. Freshman of the Year honors went to Marcus McCauley of Lakeland College. Receiving Co-Coach of the Year honors was Andy Peterson of Maranatha and Corey Van Groll of Concordia-Wisconsin.

The MSOE Raiders will hone their skills in practice this week in preparation for next weekends NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Minneapolis Minnesota.
