2012 Year in Review

2012 Year in Review

MSOE Athletics takes a moment to look back at the 2011-2012 on the events that shaped the MSOE Raiders athletic program. This is the second year we look at the individuals and teams that made this year great.

1. Construction on new Soccer Complex begins

On Friday, May 4, 2012, Milwaukee School of Engineering held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new athletic field and parking complex at the northwest corner of Broadway and Knapp St., immediately north of the Kern Center in the Park East corridor.

The athletic field will be constructed on top of an in-ground, 780-car parking facility. A small, ground-level public park will be developed and maintained by MSOE. The athletic field will be used for collegiate soccer and lacrosse. As an extension of the Kern Center, it further supports MSOE’s commitment to student wellness and development as a whole person.

This project not only benefits MSOE, but also provides an important catalyst for additional development in the Park East. It will create an attractive green space in the Park East and provide much-needed parking, both of which will prove beneficial for other commercial development.

The $30 million project will have a significant impact on the Park East Corridor, as the first major development of its kind in the area. The development is largely supported with a very generous donation from Drs. Robert and Patricia Kern. The field is scheduled for a late spring opening.

2. Hockey plays in NCAA Tournament, wins MCHA, ranked as high as sixth in the nation

The Raiders won the MCHA Harris Cup for the first time since 2006 by defeating Adrian 4-3 in overtime to clinch MSOE’s first ever appearance in the NCAA tournament.
