No. 12 MSOE hockey nets four in third period to beat Concordia-Wisconsin


MSOE scored four goals in the third period as the No. 12 Raiders beat Concordia-Wisconsin 7-4 Saturday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center in Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association action. Sophomore forward West Bauman scored twice while sophomore forward Steve Shaffroth recorded three points. MSOE swept the season series 4-0. The Raiders secured the Lake Michigan Cup for the fifth straight season Friday night.

It was the Raiders striking first with two goals in the final minute of the first period from senior forward Kyle Smith (19:04) and sophomore Austin Grosvenor (19:53). The Falcons then tied the game with two goals in the second period. The game would be tied going into the second intermission. Junior forward Jordan Keizer netted his Division III best fifth short-handed goal of the year at the 10:36 mark. Concordia-Wisconsin would score again in the second to tie the contest at 3.

The third would start with freshman forward Josh Keizer putting MSOE up for good at the 3:38 mark. West Bauman then scored his first of the period just over two minutes later. After a tally by the Falcons, Shafforth and West Bauman would both find the back of the net in the final six minutes of action. Senior goalie Connor Toomey made ten saves in the third period to earn the victory. Senior forward Todd Krupa logged two assists.

The Raiders (15-5-1, 12-3-1 MCHA) face Lake Forest Friday in Illinois at 7 p.m.
