A very experienced roster will look to take the MSOE women's tennis team to the next level this season. Four seniors and two juniors return for the Raiders in 2011.
Seniors Julie Berg (Richfield, Wis./Slinger), Carol Cayo (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills), Samantha Pekarscik (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) and Marguerite Wellstein (Oak Creek, Wis.) all will provide leadership to this year's squad. Berg was 5-6 at no. 4 singles last season while Wellstein was also 5-6 at no. 5 singles.
At the NAC Individual Championship last October, Grant and Cayo reached the semifinals of flight B doubles while Pekarscik reached the quarterfinals of flight B singles. Cayo also made it to the quarterfinals in flight B singles action.
Juniors Courtney Grant (Wauwatosa, Wis./Wauwatosa West) and Heather Miller (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) and sophomore Ashley Albrecht (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield Central) also return to the court for the Raiders.
MSOE has been picked to finish tenth in the conference according to the preseason coaches' poll. Last season, the Raiders were 3-8 in NAC matches.
The season begins Sept. 3 for MSOE with NAC matches against Dominican and Concordia-Chicago in Illinois. The first home match for the Raiders is Sept. 7 against Alverno at McKinley Park in Milwaukee. The NAC Individual Championship is set for Oct. 8-9 in Madison, Wis.
