Milwaukee -- On Senior Night at the Kern Center, it took more than 60 minutes to decide this MCHA game between the MSOE Hockey team and Lake Forest College. However, the Raiders came out on top in overtime when freshman forward Nicholas Gorup scored the game-winning goal with 3:32 left in the extra session. Gorup has now scored in five straight games for MSOE.
The Raiders trailed 1-0 in the first period when sophomore forward Todd Krupa scored to tie the game then junior forward W. Kyle Ostapina gave MSOE the lead late in the first period. After the Foresters tied the game early in the second period, the Raiders scored twice with goals coming from junior forward Michael Soik and freshman forward Vincent Witt.
Sophomore goaltender Connor Toomey made 23 saves to pick his tenth win of the season. MSOE is now 12-8-2 overall and 11-5-1 in MCHA play. With the win Friday night, the Raiders clinched the second seed in the MCHA Southern division. MSOE will host Lake Forest in the first round of the MCHA playoffs which begin in two weeks. The Raiders head to Lake Forest Saturday night to play the Foresters again. The puck will drop at 7:30 p.m. in Lake Forest.
