MSOE Hockey Defeats Lawrence to Advance to MCHA Semis
Milwaukee, Wis. - The MSOE Raiders hockey team beat the Lawrence University Vikings 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the Kern Center to win the MCHA playoff opening round series, two games to none. MSOE will take on Adrian College Saturday, March 1 at the Kern Center in the semifinals as part of the MCHA Harris Cup IV.
Sophomore Reid Crawford (Glendale, WI/Nicolet) gave the Raiders the lead with a goal at the mark 2:19 of first period. MSOE then scored again just a few minutes later. Sophomore Stephen Smiddy (Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids) scored his second goal of the weekend to give the Raiders a 2-0 lead at the 5:53 mark of the period.
The Raiders then scored two more goals in the second period. Junior Simon Labrosse-Gelinas (Houston, TX/Clear Lake) scored at the 1:38 mark of the second period. Sophomore Ben Kenyon (Sparta, WI/Sparta) finished the scoring for MSOE with a shorthanded goal at the 10:38 mark of the second period.
Freshmen goaltender Chris Keller (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) made 28 saves to get the win for MSOE.
The Raiders improve to 15-12 overall and Lawrence finished their season with a record of 10-14-3.
MSOE will now play Adrian in the semifinals of the MCHA playoffs Saturday, March 1 in the Harris Cup IV hosted by MSOE at the Kern Center. The puck will drop at 3 p.m. for that game. The second semifinal will be at 7 p.m. between Marian College and Finlandia University. The winners of those two games will play in the MCHA finals Sunday, March 2 at 4 p.m. at the Kern Center.
