MSOE Hockey Defeats UM Crookston 7 - 4
Milwaukee, Wis.--MSOE Hockey, led by Stephen Smiddy (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS), scoring two goals, controlled UM Crookston in a 7-4 whitewashing in a Saturday afternoon matinee at the MSOE Kern center Arena.
Leading goal scorer for the Raiders was Stephen Smiddy (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS), collecting two goals in the game. A huge asset for MSOE was the line of Blair Hanberg (Edmonds, Wash./Edmonds Woodway), Swallow (Stanwood, Mich./ Northville) and Soik (Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) which counted for three of the Raider's seven goals.
Senior defenseman Ken Walters (Amery, Wis./New Richmond) scored the Raiders first goal 30 seconds into the first period, off passes from Hanberg and Soik. Hanberg scored one of his own, 18 seconds into the second period, off passes from Soik and Swallow. Soik also landed a goal at the 13:52 mark of the third period, with assists from Hanberg and Swallow.
The other two MSOE goals came from junior Andrew Howard (Commerce, Mich./Dearborn), assisted by senior defenseman Jared Moormeier (Edmonds, Wash./ Edmonds Woodway) and Jason Yolo (Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead) scored off passes by Smiddy and Matt Buha (St. Charles, Mo./Chaminade College Prep).
Chris Keller went the distance in goal for the Raiders with 16 saves on the night. The Raiders are off through finals week and hit the ice on Saturday, November 24, facing UW-Superior in a non-league contest. The game is set for a 7:05 p.m. start.
