Hockey strikes first, falls late to number one St. Norbert, 6-3
Green Bay, Wis. - MSOE's Blair Hanberg came out and scored the Raider's first goal against the St. Norbert Green Knights, 8:35 into the first period. Despite the 1-0 Raider lead into the first intermission, they could not hold back the number one team in the country, falling to the Green Knights 6-3 Saturday evening at the Cornerstone Center, in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Hanberg's goal was off of passes from Lee Swallow and Jason Woll was enough to hold the lead through the first period. Goalie Michael Wyenn came up with 14 saves in the first stanza.
St. Norbert came out strong in the second period, scoring four straight goals before Green Knight goalie Blake Bashor gave up his second goal to Blair Hanberg with ten seconds remaining in the period.
In the third period, St. Norbert added two goals while the Raiders placed one more on the scoreboard, bringing the final score 6-3 in favor of St. Norbert.
In the St. Norbert win, Bashor gave up three goals and saved 16 for the Green Knights, while the Raider's Wyenn stopped 44 shots in the loss.
The Raiders go back into conference action, taking on Marian College, Friday, Jan. 11 in Fon du Lac, Wis. at 7pm.
