Milwaukee, Wis. - The MSOE Raiders hockey team got two goals and two assists from sophomore Stephen Smiddy (Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids) in route to a 6-3 victory over the Finlandia University Lions on Friday night at the Kern Center. Junior Simon Labrosse-Gelinas (Houston, TX/Clear Lake) picked up three assists for the Raiders in the win.

MSOE got the scoring going in the first period with a goal by senior Mike Marquette (Fairbanks, AK/Lathrop) assisted by Labrosse-Gelinas and Smiddy. Senior Lee Swallow (Stanwood, MI/Northville) gave MSOE a 2-1 lead with 48 seconds left in the first period. Smiddy extended the MSOE lead to 3-1 in the second period with a power play goal.

The Raiders scored twice in the first four minutes of the third period to extend their lead to 5-2. Those goals were scored by freshman Michael Soik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) and senior Ken Walters (Amery, WI/New Richmond). Smiddy finished off the scoring for MSOE with an empty netter with 2:04 left in the final period. MSOE outshot the Lions 27-20 on the night. Soik and Smiddy are now tied for the team lead with ten goals each on the season.

Freshman Chris Keller (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) had 17 saves for the Raiders in the win. Ryan Donovan picked up 21 saves for Finlandia in a losing effort.

The victory improves MSOE's record to 8-5 in MCHA games and 10-8 overall on the season. Finlandia falls to 8-5 in MCHA play and 9-7-2 overall.

The Raiders take on Finlandia again on Saturday, January 26 at the Kern Center. The puck will drop for that game at 2 p.m.
