MSOE Hockey Finishes Season Sweep of Concordia-Wisconsin
 

Mequon, Wis. - It took a third period comeback but the MSOE Raiders hockey team was able to complete a 4-0 season series sweep of the Concordia University-Wisconsin Falcons with a 5-4 victory Saturday night at the Ozaukee Ice Center. MSOE had already secured the Lake Michigan Cup the night before against the Falcons which goes to the winner of the season series between the two schools.

The Raiders trailed Concordia 4-2 in the third period when MSOE scored three goals in less two minutes to take a 5-4 lead. The game winning goal was scored by freshman Michael Soik (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) who also had a first period goal for the Raiders. Freshmen Michael Siergiej (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) scored in the third period to bring MSOE within one goal. Then, senior Blair Hanberg (Edmonds, WA/Edmonds Woodway) tied the game at 4 just a few moments later.

MSOE started the game fast with two goals in the first four minutes of the game, one by Soik and other by sophomore Stephen Smiddy (Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids). Senior Lee Swallow (Stanwood, MI/Northville) recorded three assists in the game for the Raiders.

Freshmen goaltender Chris Keller (Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) got the win for MSOE with 13 saves.

The Raiders are now 10-6 in MCHA play and 12-9 overall. Concordia falls to 2-14 in MCHA play and 2-19 overall. The Falcons were led by Sam Aide who scored two goals in the second period.

MSOE is back in action on Friday, February 8 against Adrian College at the Kern Center. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
