Raiders Lose Heartbreaker

Aurora, Ill. – The MSOE women gave the 6-0-1 Aurora Spartans all they could handle.  With the score deadlocked at 1-1 in the 88th minute the Spartans cracked, what was beginning to feel like, an impenetrable Raider defense.   The game finished 1-2 to Aurora.  MSOE coach Rolf Zersen, “The girls battled hard today and did whatever it took to stay in the game.  Aurora is a good team and they kept coming until the very end; hats off to them.  It is a bit disappointing, because it came down to the final minutes and you feel like you deserve, at least, a point.”

Aurora held the shot advantage, but did not find the scoreboard until the 50th minute of the match, and that lead, was short lived.  In the 59th minute freshman defender Tori St. Martin (Dellwood, Minn. / Mahtomedi H.S.) ventured forward on a corner kick and laced a volley into the upper corner from 20 yards.  With the game at zeros both teams attacked.  Emily Lumpe (Lawrence, Kan. / Lawrence) was solid between the posts and Natalie Gayner (Whitefish, Mont. / Whitefish) continued to menace the Aurora backline, but her best chance sailed over the goal.

The Women return to action Wednesday September 19th versus North Park in Chicago Ill.  The Raiders are currently 3-2-1 and 1-2 in conference play.
