Raiders Lose Heartbreaker

Aurora, Ill. – The MSOE women gave the 6-0-1 Aurora Spartans all they could handle.  With the score deadlocked at 1-1 in the 88^th minute the Spartans cracked, what was beginning to feel like, an impenetrable Raider defense.   The game finished 1-2 to Aurora.  MSOE coach Rolf Zersen, “The girls battled hard today and did whatever it took to stay in the game.  Aurora is a good team and they kept coming until the very end; hats off to them.  It is a bit disappointing, because it came down to the final minutes and you feel like you deserve, at least, a point.”

Aurora held the shot advantage, but did not find the scoreboard until the 50^th minute of the match, and that lead, was short lived.  In the 59^th minute freshman defender Tori St. Martin (Dellwood, Minn. / Mahtomedi H.S.) ventured forward on a corner kick and laced a volley into the upper corner from 20 yards.  With the game at zeros both teams attacked.  Emily Lumpe (Lawrence, Kan. / Lawrence) was solid between the posts and Natalie Gayner (Whitefish, Mont. / Whitefish) continued to menace the Aurora backline, but her best chance sailed over the goal. 

The Women return to action Wednesday September 19^th versus North Park in Chicago Ill.  The Raiders are currently 3-2-1 and 1-2 in conference play.
