Raiders Win Third in a Row

Milwaukee, Wis. – MSOE striker Jordan Werner (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Montini Catholic H.S.) recorded his second consecutive hat trick, in a 4-0 defeat of the Marian Sabres, Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Stadium.  Werner, the current Northern Athletic Conference (NAC) Soccer Student Athlete of the Week, now has 13 goals on the season and 27 total points.  He leads all players in the NAC in both categories, and is one of the most prolific goal scorers in the country.

Werner benefited from an MSOE offense that was equal parts possession and panache.  The Raiders continually connected passes in a mesmerizing display of eleven versus eleven keep away.  When the passing movements neared the Marian penalty box, they culminated with dangerous shots and serves.  Marian’s notoriously stingy defense had all they could handle, and in the 24th minute a Drew Porter (Milwaukee, Wis. / Dominican) shot parried to the opportunistic Werner, who calmly scored his first of the game.  Eight minutes later, Werner spun in the box with a clever sole-role and slid a left footed strike past the Sabre goalie.  It was 2-0 at the break and Coach Jimmy Banks was pleased but expected more, “We played good soccer in the first half, but I thought we could play better.  We talked about hitting crisper passes so our possession was even cleaner and would really wear Marian down.”

In the second period MSOE did just that.  With Dominic Ridolfi (Kenosha, Wis. / Tremper) conducting the rhythm, the Raider’s circulated the ball through the Marian defense.  The third goal, though, was proving elusive.  In the 73rd minute Noah Corbeil-Wild (Minneapolis, Minn. / South High) had just the remedy.  His refined chip between the Marian center backs was all Werner needed to finish the hat trick.  In the 78th minute Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis. / Marquette) found Tobias Moller (Bad Segeberg, Germany /Fachgymansium Bad Segeberg) running through Marian six yard box.  Moller scored his first of the year.  The game finished 4-0.

Coach Banks was encouraged by the progress the team has made in the past two games.  “I was not happy with our ability to keep the ball so we went back to the basics.  Against Rockford, and tonight against Marian, we were much better and it showed up on the scoreboard.  Dominic was a maestro in the midfield, and Brad Meissner (Hartland, Wis. / Arrowhead) and Mike Skow (Mequon, Wis. / Homestead) were nearly flawless playing the ball out from center back.”

MSOE (7-3, 3-1) plays Wisconsin Lutheran College (6-5, 1-2) in another NAC match up this Saturday, September 29th, at 1:00 pm at Hart Park in Wauwatosa, Wis.
