Corbeil-Wild Leads the Way to Raider Victory

River Forest, Ill. – The MSOE Raiders improved to 1-1 in conference play and 5-3 overall with an impressive 2-0 shutout of the Concordia-Chicago Cougars (0-7, 0-2).

With clever possession and breakneck transition the Raider attack was missing only one ingredient in the first half; an answer for Cougar keeper Jorge Guzman.  Guzman’s acrobatics and stellar punts held the MSOE attack in check.  One Guzman punt almost turned into an assist, if not for the reflexes of MSOE goalie, Garret Farin (Madison, Wis. / Madison East).  Jordan Werner (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Montini Catholic H.S.), Drew Porter (Milwaukee, Wis. / Dominican), Pat Gathof (Beloit, Wis. / Beloit Memorial) and Logan Andryk (Hartland, Wis. / Marquette) all recorded shots on goal, but none had the precision or pace to find the back of the net.  In all, the Raiders outshot Concordia-Chicago 14-3 in the first period, but as is so often the case in the cruel sport of soccer, the score remained 0-0 at the break.

In the second half Noah Corbeil-Wild (Minneapolis, Minn. / South High) officially opened his MSOE account and then, added an assist for good measure.  Tyler Leis’ (Waukesha Wis. / Waukesha West) in-swinging corner kick located the opportunistic foot of Noah in the 61st minute.   Four minutes later Noah dribbled in, from right to left, and slotted a misdirection pass to Werner, who deposited his seventh finish of the young season.  “Noah (Corbeil-Wild) has been in form lately,” stated a pleased Coach Jimmy Banks.  “He has trained very well, kept possession better and is earning and making the most of his opportunities.”

Noah was not the only MSOE player who earned the praise of Coach Banks.  “Matt Braden (Lake Villa, Ill. / Lakes Community), Robert Nogle (Antioch, Ill. / Antioch Community) and Daniel Frey (Appleton, Wis. / Fox Valley Lutheran) all attacked well from the wide back position and Garrett (Farin) made the saves to maintain a clean sheet.

Next up for Raiders is the Rockford Regents (1-4-1, 0-1-1) this Saturday the 22nd at 3:30 pm in Rockford, Ill.
