Season Preview

The MSOE softball team will look to improve upon their 4-29 2008 overall record, and last place finish in Northern Athletics Conference play. The team returns only four players from last year's squad. Looking to lead the offense for the Raiders is Jolisa Gold. Gold, a junior catcher and outfielder, led the team in runs batted in (14 RBIs), second in slugging percentage (.414) and tied for third on the team with a .257 batting average. She will get plenty of help from senior outfielder Leah Kutz. Kutz led the team in slugging percentage (.457), on base percentage (.381) and runs scored with 17 for the season.

Also returning for the Raiders is centerfielder catcher Brittany Remington. Last season, Remington took the mound for the Raiders and in 2009; she looks to play second base for the Raiders. Senior Amanda Reda will see time in the outfield.

Many new faces join the Raiders this season. Upperclassman joining the team includes junior Chaley Morris, who will play third base season, while sophomores Amanda Meidl and Sara Achten don the Raider uniform for their first season and will play shortstop and first base, respectively.

Freshman Jessica Phillips, Ruby Pinson, and Elise Pinkerton will see time in the outfield. Phillips may also see some action at first base for the Raiders this year. Jessica Iverson will handle the pitching chores in her first collegiate season.

The Raiders dive right into their Northern Athletics Conference schedule against Aurora University on March 25. The season cumulates with the conference tournament April 30- May 2 at Alverno Athletic Fields, Milwaukee, Wis.
