2009-2010 Season Preview
Captains Matt Olsen (Algonquin, Ill. / Harry D. Jacobs) and Virgil Pope (Janesville, Wis. / Clinton) will be called on to lead the MSOE team this year. Pope is a two-time Conference Champion and was a participant in the national tournament last year after beating the 4th ranked wrestler in the nation at the NCAA Regional tournament. Olsen was a 2007 conference champion and finished 5th in the NCAA Regional tournament last year behind four eventual NCAA All-Americans. Dominick Deligio (Ingleside, Ill. / Grant Community) is also a returning conference champion from 2008. He will drop down to the 125# weight class after wrestling at 133# the last two years. Eleven new wrestlers will fill the practice room and compete for starting positions. Among them are two-time state qualifiers Matt Ostovich (Greenfield, Wis. / Greenfield) and Matt Weber (New Brighton, Minn. / St. Anthony) as well as state qualifiers Austin Binish (Sturgeon Bay, Wis. / Sturgeon Bay) and John Fowler (Colville, Wash. / Colville). Junior transfer LaMichael Joseph (Peoria, Ill. / Woodruff) and freshmen Craig Evans (Milwaukee, Wis. / West Allis Central), Fernando Morales (Bartlett, Ill. / Lake Park), Steve Nguyen (Eagan, Minn. / Burnsville), Caleb Staub (Freeport, Ill. / Dakota) and Joshua Wengerter (Sobieski, Wis. / Pulaski) will also vie for the starting spot in the lineup.
