2009 Mens' Track Preview
The MSOE Men's Track and Field team brings depth to a program that has over 50 student-athletes participating and looking for northern Atjhletic Conference titles. Both the indoor and outdoor team teams will be extremely competitive this year.
The Raiders will be led by a veteran squad of seniors. Senior Brian Seniuk has a legitimate shot to go to nationals in both the 200 and 400 meter run. He holds the MSOE indoor records in both events as well as the 400 outdoor record. Seniuk is not the only Raider sprinter to watch out for in the sprints. Multi event participants Nate Harwell, Kyle Rate and Van Alstyne to leave their mark in the sprints.
In the distance events, seniors Dominic Maio, Tim Carlson, Ben Bichler (800-400) along with juniors Zak Lutz and Cameron Rate will be the main cogs for the Raiders. Carlson has the MSOE indoor record in the 5000 meter run while Maio owns the school indoor record in the mile run and 800 meter run as well two 1500m and 800m outdoor records. Bichler is the school record holder in the indoor 600 meter dash. Joe Kolavo also adds depth to an already deep Raider distance team.
Leading the way for MSOE in the jumping events will be junior Kyle Rate, sophomores Alex Raver, Arthur Weborg and Kevin Diedrich. Rate has the school indoor and outdoor records in the triple jump, while Raver holds the indoor record in the high jump. Weborg holds the indoor record in the long jump and is a threat in the triple jump. Mark Van Alstyne and Hartwell could add depth in the jumping events for the Raiders.
The Veteran Raiders in the hurdle events are Diederich and WEborg. Diederich owns the 50 meter indoor and the 110 high hurdles record, respectively. Look for Eric Hein and Tim Lang to shoot for marks in the hurdles.
Michael Jasperson, and Brent Verhyn will be the MSOE future in the throws this season. The Raiders will miss discus and shot put record holder Matt Ollayos who graduated last spring.
