2010-2011 Season Recap

Junior center Carol Cayo (Lake Mills, Wis./Lake Mills) has been selected First Team All-Northern Athletics Conference for her play during the 2010-11 season. Cayo was named First Team All-NAC last season and NAC Freshman of the Year during the 2008-09 season. She owns the all-time NAC record for career rebounds and blocked shots and led the NAC in rebounding and blocks during this season. Freshman forward Shannon Larson (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) was picked for the All-Freshman Team and junior guard Kathleen Collingbourne (East Dundee, Ill./Dundee-Crown) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. 

Cayo was recently named to the Capital One Women's Basketball College Division Academic All-America Second Team. Cayo is an industrial engineering major and holds a 3.97 grade point average. Last season, Cayo was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team. She recently broke the MSOE record for rebounds in a career as she surpassed the mark set by Catherine Chappell. She has 872 rebounds in her three years as a Raider. Cayo owns the school record for blocks in a career (239) as well. Also this season, Cayo became the seventh player in the history of the MSOE women's basketball program to hit the 1,000-point plateau.

Cayo completed the season leading the Raiders in scoring (16.7 PPG), rebounding (11.2 RPG), field goals (152), field-goal percentage (46.6%), free throws (128), steals (52) and blocks (74). She recorded 13 double-doubles during the 2010-11 season for third straight year.

Larson was second on the team in field goals (100), rebounding (5.2 RPG) and field goal percentage (44.8%) and finished third in scoring (9.5 PPG) and free throws (46). Collingbourne led MSOE with 72 assists and was second with 21 three-pointers made.

In the quarterfinals of the NAC Tournament, the Raiders lost to top seed Wisconsin Lutheran 76-55. MSOE completed the season 5-12 in the Northern Athletic Conference South Division and 8-18 overall.

2010-2011 Season Preview

The Raiders have been selected to finish third in the Northern Athletics Conference South Division by the the coaches' preseason poll. MSOE receive 49 total points and two first-places votes. Benedictine was picked to win the division with Concordia-Chicago in second. Concordia-Wisconsin is the favorite in the North Division.

Last season, the Raiders finished fourth in the South Division with a mark of 9-9 in conference play. MSOE will be led by junior Carol Cayo who was a First Team All-NAC selection last season and was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

The 2010-11 season gets underway Saturday, Nov. 20 against Eureka on the road at 1 p.m. The first NAC game for the Raiders is Wednesday, Dec. 1 against Benedictine at the Kern Center in Milwaukee.
