2008 Baseball Preview
The MSOE baseball team is back in conference competition after last year the Raiders were an independent. The Raiders will play in the Northern Athletics Conference in 2008. According to head coach Troy Doering pitching will be a main key for MSOE during this season.
“Any team’s success is going to lie with pitching,” Doering said. “Our staff needs to be consistent, throw strikes and limit walks. The starters need to be able to pitch deep into games for our bull pen to be successful.”
“Our strengths are senior leadership, solid infield, solid defense, speed in the outfield, consistent pitching,” Doering said.
“Schmocker had limited playing time last season as a middle relief pitcher and this season having a limited staff, his effectiveness on the mound is going to be critical for our ball club to be successful,” Doering said.
Coach Doering looks to two seniors to be the main leaders on the team.
“Anthony Gorzelnik and Kyle Schmocker both lead by example through hard work and dedication,” Doering said. “They are also vocal leaders when need be. Both are likeable people and there teammates respond to them.”
Freshmen will be a big part of the MSOE team in 2008. Hansen is expected to start at designated hitter and Andrew Krzyzanowski at second base. Zach Mangerson and Jordan Opalewski will split time for the Raiders in center field. Keith Woodstock will man right field for MSOE during the 2008 campaign.
