Losing just one senior from last year's squad, Meloy willturn to a quartet of talented young golfers to lead the team this year. JoshFenske (Verona, Wis./VeronaHS) and Jon Syvertson (Randolph, Wis./ Randolph)got their first taste of collegiate golf a year ago as sophomores. Fenskeperformed well enough to be named captain for this season and Meloy is hopingfor big things now that they both have gone through a season of traveling, competing, and getting to know the courses. Also returning this year are sophomores JohnHolzbauer (Menomonee Falls, Wis./PiusXI) and Sam Meyers (Mequon, Wis.Homestead).
"I'm expecting some better results this year now that theyhave gotten into a routine," Meloy said. "Their experiences last season aregoing to be a great help to us."
Meloy will also get help from a talented influx of freshman, many of whom participated in their respective state high school tournaments ayear ago.
The biggest positive for the team this year is thechemistry. The four returning players have spent a year playing together, andspend time together off the course as well.
"These guys all like each other," Meloy said. "They hang outtogether and they get along great. That chemistry will be our biggest assetthis year."
The Raiders expect to be competitive in tournaments such asthe Gustie Twin City Classic and in the Edgewood Invitational. They willcompete for the Northern Athletics Conference Championship on Oct. 15-16 at thefamous Whistling Straits Country Club in Kohler,Wis.
