Women's Cross Country Recap 2007

The MSOE women's cross country team made their mark in the team's first season as a member of the Northern Athletics Conference. The Raiders finished in third place at the NAC championships in Schiller Park, Ill.

"Placing third in the NAC conference was totally outstanding and impressed me," said head coach Larry Gardner. "I could not have been happier."

Four MSOE runners received All-Conference honors including two first-team selections. Senior Heather DeLany finished in fourth place in the conference championships to receive first-team honors. DeLany was a two-time first-team All-Conference selection when MSOE was in the Lake Michigan Conference. Senior Leah Leja was also first-team All-Conference by finishing in tenth place. Senior Libby Nowak finished 22nd and freshman Emily Schmeling was 25th in the race to each receive honorable mention honors.

Coach Gardner believes that DeLany helped lead the Raiders to where they ended up during the 2007 season.

"The leader was Heather Delany," Gardner said. "She is the one that led the girls to the conference finish. Heather is the captain of the team and is always concerned about everyone on her team."

Earlier in the 2007 season, DeLany also finished in fourth place at the Beloit Olde English Classic where the Raiders finished fourth as a team. Leja picked up a 15th place finish in that race.
