New Student Residence Hall Move in, last names A – M
9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Residence Halls

Move-in for student with last names A-M. Free parking in the Milwaukee B and Broadway lot. Head into RWJ for check-in and to get a cart! Check out the “Resident Hall Life” tab in Guidebook for further details about move in and what you can/cannot bring into the dorms.

Open Skate 
7 – 8:30 p.m., Kern Center Ice Arena

Meet your classmates on the ice during a session of open skating. Skate rentals are available (first come, first served). Dress warm.

English Placement Testing
9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., Multipurpose Room

English testing for International Students. This testing is used by the English as a Second Language (ESL) department to verify English proficiency. You would have received further information if you are required to take the placement test.

English testing will take place in the Multipurpose Room, located on the 3rd floor of the Campus Center.

Bus to Target
2 p.m. – 5 p.m., Pickup outside of Campus Center

Did you forget something at home? Well if you did, no need to worry! A bus will transport you to and from Target so that you can get those last minute college essentials!

The buses will be picking up and dropping off from in front of the Campus Center.

Residence Hall Welcome Dinner

Join your peers in the RWJ cafeteria for a Welcome Dinner.

Residence Hall Floor Meetings
8 – 10 p.m., Res hall floors

Meet your RA and fellow floor mates and learn about the Dos and Don’ts of living on campus.

Accelerated Nursing Orientation
8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., School of Nursing

Orientation for transfer nursing students on an accelerated track. During this orientation you will receive your lap-top and student ID. For more information, contact Dr. Jane Paige at (414) 277-4522 or paige@msoe.edu.

Registration – Required
9 – 10:30 a.m., Kern Center Field House and Arena

Join us in the Kern Center Arena for the Welcome Address. Here you will get to meet your Peer Assistant (PA) and be assigned to a group with other students. Your Peer Assistant will bring you and your group to and from many of the scheduled events and will be able to answer any questions you may have about MSOE and the Milwaukee area.

If you are curious, check out the Peer Assistants at the “Meet your Peer Assistant” page in the Guidebook app. Here you can find the major, interests and advice from all of the Peer Assistants.

Honors Orientation
11 a.m. – 1 p.m., 4th floor Grohmann Tower Room 401

Laptop Pick-Up (by PA group – see Guidebook for scheduled time slots)
11 a.m. – 5 p.m., CC Building, second floor

Pick-up will take place on the second floor of the Campus Center. Make sure to bring your student identification card!

Math Placement Tests
1 – 3 p.m., Walter Schroeder Library

Math placement tests are used to verify math class placement. You would have received further information if you are required to take the math placement test.

Math testing will take place in the Walter Schroeder Library (various classrooms).

Title IX Training (see Guidebook for scheduled time slots)
2 p.m. and 5 p.m.,

Title IX training consists of college safety and sexual assault awareness training.

Transfer Student Orientation, Laptop Pick-up, and Social
5 – 8 p.m., Todd Wehr Auditorium

This is the only required event for Transfer Students. This session will include laptop and student ID pick-up, parking information and dinner.

Welcome Dinner
6 – 8:30 p.m., Kern Center Field House

Welcome dinner for all new students.

Outdoor Movie Night: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 
9 – 11 p.m., Grass Athletic Field

Bring your blanket or lawn chair out to the old athletic field and enjoy a great movie under the stars. Don’t forget to grab some popcorn!

Rain date is Thursday, Aug. 31.

International Student Orientation
9 a.m. – 12 p.m., CC-361

Thinking outside the Box
10 a.m. – noon, Kern Center Arena

Students in groups will get to know each other and connect on similar interests.

Choose Your Own Adventure
1 – 4 p.m., all over campus

Join your group and explore Milwaukee! Funding will be provided to your PA for treats. Multiple events will be going on for students to choose what to participate in. These range from kayaking the Milwaukee River (which you have to sign up for ahead), game trucks, a scavenger hunt, beach day at Bradford, board games, open skate, and more!

Strength in Diversity Dinner – Sponsored by Baird
5 – 8 p.m., Todd Wehr Auditorium

Co-hosted by NSBE and SHPE, this dinner allows incoming students to meet other students, staff and faculty as well as campus and community resources. There will be a keynote speaker, and the opportunity to mingle with diversity-focused organizations on campus.

EEX Session:  Calculus Review
7 – 8:30 p.m., L-100

The Calculus Review is for electrical engineering transfer students and will be led by Dr. van Groningen.

Greek Info Night
8 – 9 p.m., Multipurpose Room

All fraternities and sororities at MSOE will have booths showing all the new students the possible Greek life organizatons to join.

MSOE Community Market 
11 a.m. – 1 p.m., Campus Center third floor

Learn about all our great community has to offer! From local restaurants to music and sports venues, MSOE has a front row seat to all the fun Milwaukee has to offer.

Info Sessions
1 – 4 p.m., Todd Wehr Conference Center

Are you interested in learning more about the opportunities on campus? Come to the Todd Wehr Conference Center to learn more about global opportunities, jobs, music and club sports on campus!

  • 1 p.m. – Global Opportunities: Interested in traveling while you are a Raider? MSOE provides short-term, project-based and long-term exchanges to accommodate your preference and academic availability! Learn about going to Central America during break week to build a bridge, traveling to Dubai to study infrastructure or living in Prague for a quarter while taking your courses at Czech Tech.
  • 2 p.m. – Music Programs: From pep band to choir and everything in between – learn about what your music career as a Raider looks like.
  • 3 p.m. – Club Sports and ROTC: Plan on playing sports but not a division three level athlete? Learn about the club and intramural sports we offer, as well as other opportunities. Learn about promotion as a member of the sports marketing team. Have you always wanted to be a mascot? We’ve got something for you. Don’t miss this session!
  • 4 p.m. – Working on campus: This short session will review what you need to do to get an on-campus job.

Women in Leadership Dinner – Sponsored by Baird

The Digital Review is for electrical engineering transfer students and will be led by Dr. Carl.

Casino Night
8 – 11 p.m., Campus Center Third Floor

Join the brothers of Delta Sigma Phi as they host the 12th annual Casino Night. Games for all, including Blackjack, Poker, Craps, Roulette and more.

There will be food, games and a photo booth for all to enjoy.

Faculty and Staff Tells All
9 a.m., Kern Center Arena – Free Donuts and Milk!

Come to the Kern Center Arena to learn about classroom etiquette, what to expect on your first day, and much more from a panel of faculty and staff. Make sure to ask any questions that you may have.

Join your program after the department meeting and head over for a community cookout.

Student Org Fair

MSOE has over 90 student-run organizations on campus, including professional orgs, special interest, religious, service, and Greek. Getting involved in an organization is a great way to get to meet new students around campus and make friends that last a lifetime.

The Circuits Review is for electrical engineering transfer students and will be led by Dr. Strangeway.

Jazz in the Park
7 – 9 p.m., Cathedral Square Park

Come to Cathedral Square to hear the Charles Walker Band perform.

Freshman Convocation

As Welcome Week comes to a close, join us in Kern Center Field House for breakfast and hear from a variety of speakers, including the VP of Enrollment, the Humanities, Social Science and Communication Department Chair, Dean of Students and our President!

Pride and Unity Luncheon – Sponsored by Baird
Noon – 2 p.m., Todd Wehr Auditorium

Co-hosted by the SAGA (Sexuality and Gender Alliance) this luncheon allows incoming students to meet others on campus. There will be a keynote speaker, and the opportunity to mingle with LGBTQ plus and Ally-focused organizations on campus and in our community.

Field Day
2 – 6 p.m., Grass Athletic Field

Come out to the Grass Athletic Field and join in a variety of outdoor activities:

Honors Dinner

Honors program students are invited to a dinner to end the week.
