MSOE recently received a $150,000 Career Ready Internship Initiative grant from Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corporation. This grant will benefit students enrolled in MSOE’s Student Support Services TRIO Program by offering them opportunities to gain invaluable, real-world experience through paid internships in their fields of study.
The Career Ready Internship Initiative grant will help MSOE expand its already successful internship programs and give even more students the opportunity to obtain paid internships. The university will use the grant to create new paid internships and turn previously unpaid internships into paid internships, for juniors and seniors who don’t receive enough financial aid to cover college costs.
Participants will be required to attend workshops on resume development, interviewing skills, work place etiquette and peer mentoring. Interns will meet regularly with Student Support Services staff after the second week of their internship, and again at the end to discuss growth and their experiences. Transportation costs to and from internship locations also will be provided.
Graduates of MSOE enjoy a 94 percent placement rate due, in part, to the university’s strong relationships with industry, outstanding internship program and applied education. Graduates are ready to hit the ground running.
MSOE is one of 19 Wisconsin colleges and universities to receive some of the more than $2.5 million in Career Ready Internship Initiative grant funds awarded by Great Lakes.
