Who May Borrow Videos
Milwaukee School of Engineering students, faculty, and staff with valid MSOE Identification Cards may borrow videos from the collection. Students, faculty, and staff must check out the videos in-person from the MSOE Library.
Businesses, universities, and other organizations not associated with MSOE may also borrow videos from the collection for use throughout the organization, but must first register with MSOE. Registration for non-MSOE borrowers requires an annual fee. The annual fee is employed to maintain the collection and to purchase new videos. Click here for registration details, including online registration.
As part of the registration process for a business, university, or other organization, a Key Contact from the organization must be designated. The Key Contact is the person in an organization who will serve as the primary contact for billing purposes. Other Contacts from an organization may also be designated, but no more than three Contacts are generally permitted. If more than three Contacts (including the Key Contact) are desired, please contact the MSOE Library at 414-277-7180. Contacts from an organization are the ONLY people who are allowed to check out materials for their organization. As soon as registration of their organizations has been completed (together with payment of the $250 annual borrowing fee), Contacts should visit the MSOE Library in order to receive an MSOE library card and to be entered into the library database. The library card is valid for one year, and can only be used to borrow videos from the collection.
Library cards can be sent to Contacts who are unable to visit the library. Contacts unable to visit the library should call the library at 414-277-7180 to arrange for a library card to be sent to them. At this time, Contacts will have to provide required information (name, address, etc.).
Videos from this collection are not available via Interlibrary Loan.
Checking Out Videos
Milwaukee School of Engineering students, faculty, and staff with valid MSOE Identification Cards may check out videos in-person from the MSOE Library.
Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may use their MSOE library cards to check out videos in-person.
Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may also call the MSOE Library at (414)277-7180 in order to check out videos over the telephone and request that the videos be shipped. See Shipping Videos. When calling to check out videos, a Contact must provide his or her name and the barcode number on his or her MSOE library card.
All borrowers (MSOE students, faculty, staff, and Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations) may also request or reserve videos via the web. When requesting or reserving videos via the web, borrowers should provide name and barcode number. Key Contacts will be called concerning delivery options.
The loan period for a video is seven (7) days. The loan period begins at the checkout and ends on the specified due date. An item is overdue (see Overdue Videos) beginning with the next day following the due date.
Videos may be renewed one (1) time for an additional seven (7) days if a hold has not been placed on the videos or if a borrower has not reserved the videos. The due date of the renewal is based on the date of the renewal, not the original due date.
Members of the MSOE community must renew videos in-person and before the video’s due date. A valid MSOE Identification Card must be presented at the time of the renewal.
Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may use their MSOE library cards to renew videos in-person and before the video’s due date. Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may also call the MSOE Library Circulation Desk at (414)277-7180 in order to renew videos. Calls must be made before the due date of the video. When calling to renew a video, a Contact must provide his or her name and the barcode number on his or her MSOE library card.
Key Contacts from registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may request that videos be shipped to them by means of a delivery service, such as Fed Ex or UPS. Contacts must supply the MSOE Library with a Fed Ex number, UPS number, or similar number. The MSOE Library will charge the cost of shipping the item to this number. The MSOE Library will not pay for shipping charges. Shipping charges can be avoided by checking out and returning the videos in-person.
Contacts who cannot supply a delivery service account number to the MSOE Library should notify the MSOE Library at 414-277-7180. The Library can make arrangements for videos to be shipped, and for Contacts to be billed.
Students, faculty, and staff of the Milwaukee School of Engineering must pick up their video checkouts in-person.
All borrowers of videos from the MSOE MMAC Business and Management Video Collection are responsible for making arrangements to return videos on time. If a video is not reserved by another borrower (see Rerserving Videos), lending periods may be extended (see Renewals).
There is a late charge of $25.00 per day per video for all borrowers. A borrower may not check out additional videos if he or she has overdue videos or late charges.
Damaged or Lost Videos
In the event that a video from the collection is damaged or lost while in the custody of a borrower, the borrower (or the borrower’s organization) is liable to the MSOE Library for the cost to repair or to replace the video.
Milwaukee School of Engineering students, faculty, and staff with valid MSOE Identification Cards may place a hold on checked-out videos in-person at the Circulation Desk in the Library.
Key Contacts of registered businesses, universities, or other organizations may place a hold on a checked-out video in-person or by telephone. Call (414)277-7180 to place a hold. When calling to place a hold on a video, a Contact must provide his or her name and the barcode number on his or her MSOE library card.
To reserve a video for future use, all borrowers should call or visit the MSOE Library, (414)277-7180. Key Contacts of registered businesses, universities, or other organizations are the ONLY authorized personnel allowed to make reservations.
All borrowers may also reserve videos via the web.
When reserving videos, all borrowers should understand that the MSOE Library maintains a policy of “first come, first served.”
Loss of Borrowing Privileges
The MSOE Library reserves the right to suspend the borrowing privileges of customers who violate rules associated with the MSOE MMAC Business and Management Video Collection.
The following reasons are the major causes for the loss of borrowing privileges, although privileges may be suspended for other reasons at the discretion of the MSOE Library:
- Overdue items have not been returned.
- Overdue fines have not been paid.
- Costs for damaged or lost videos have not been paid.
- Illegal use of the videos (see Video Broadcast Restrictions).
Video Broadcast Restrictions
Only Milwaukee School of Engineering students, faculty, and staff, and employees of registered businesses, universities, and other organizations may view borrowed videos.
The MSOE Library abides by and enforces copyright restrictions for all videos in the collection. Borrowers of the videos may not copy, edit, modify, sell, rent, license, or transmit the videos, nor may they charge admission for the viewing of the videos.
