Meeting and Study Areas

The Walter Schroeder Library provides our users with a variety of areas for both quiet study and group study.

Group Study

The main floor (the second floor) of the library is an area where socialization is welcome. The lounge area is full of comfortable leather couches and chairs and cafe tables. The south side of the main floor has large tables and plenty of seating that allows for groups to spread out and work collaboratively.

Study & Collaboration Rooms

We offer seven private study rooms. Each study room has electrical outlets and network access points to accommodate laptops.

Study rooms have a table, chairs and a chalkboard and are designed to accommodate 2-4 students.

Collaboration rooms have a large conference table (seating for 8), and two large-screen digital display panels. Panels are wireless-enabled, and will enable students to display their laptops on the screen. Each screen can display (in four quadrants) the laptop displays of four students – eight displays per room.

All seven study rooms may be reserved. Requests may be made online or by calling the front desk (414-277-7180). Rooms must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance.

Quiet Study

The first floor of the library is a quiet zone, equipped with comfortable sofas and study carrels. No talking or cell phone use is allowed on this floor to ensure that you have a quiet area on campus. Wireless Internet is available throughout the library.

Schroeder Conference Room

The Walter Schroeder Library’s Schroeder Room is an excellent location for faculty meetings, thesis defenses, and group gatherings. With its wood paneled walls, wood parquet floor, comfortable leather chairs, and scenic view of Cathedral Square Park it is one of the most highly sought-after conference rooms on the MSOE campus. The room is configured in a rectangular horseshoe pattern which can seat 20 people around its perimeter. If alternative seating arrangements are desired, this should be requested in advance so the proper configuration can be prepared.

The room is equipped with an LCD projector and projection screen. It also offers Internet connectivity as well as wireless Internet. All other audio visual requests, such as teleconferencing, video cameras, digital cameras, and TV/VCRs or TV/DVD player can be coordinated by using the Audio Visual Request Tracker. There are buffet tables for food service, but any menu and delivery requests should be arranged through Food Services Incorporated (414) 277-7403.

To reserve the Schroeder Room, please use the online Room Scheduler.
