MSOE Residence Halls and On-Campus Housing

After a long an hectic day in classes and labs, return to your home away from home.

img-reshalls-photos1-2012We want you to feel at home in the MSOE residence halls. Nearly all freshmen and sophomores live on campus. Whether you live in Margaret Loock, Roy W. Johnson or Regents Hall, you will have access to amenities such as TV lounges, laundry facilities, game rooms and study floors. In addition, you will have basic cable television service and free Internet access.

MSOE has three co-ed residence halls: Loock Hall, Johnson Hall, and Regents Hall. Each hall has both single and double rooms on each floor, and residents may choose the floor style they prefer. However, Regents Hall and single rooms are typically available only for upperclassmen.

Standard floor quiet hours are 11 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Study floor quiet hours are 6 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Quiet floor quiet hours are 24 hours a day

Margaret Loock Residence Hall

324 E. Juneau Ave.
Several hundred students call MLH home. Features include study and recreation space, TV lounges, laundry rooms, game rooms and study floors. The Public Safety Department is also located in MLH. Constructed in 1967, MLH is named after the wife of a former president of Allen-Bradley Co. (now known as Rockwell Automation), Fred Loock, who was chairman of the MSOE Board of Regents.

Roy W. Johnson Residence Hall

RWJ is also home to several hundred students, and offers amenities such as laundry rooms, game rooms, study floors and TV lounges. Dedicated in 1965, the building also contains the Housing Office, a dining hall, Roscoe’s restaurant and the Food Services Office.

Regents Residence Hall

Regents Hall was built in 1990 by Kahler Slater Architects as a four-story addition to RWJ, which is why they share an entrance. It is arranged apartment style with each suite containing bedrooms, a bathroom and a kitchenette.

Tower Apartments

1150 N. Water St.
Tower Apartments is MSOE’s newest Residence Hall. As of Sept. 1, 2014, floors 4-9 will have 102 units available including studio and 1-bedroom apartments. Currently open to all juniors, seniors and international students on a first come, first served basis, Tower Apartments come fully furnished and include all utilities (heat, air conditioning, electricity and water) as well as a full kitchen and bathroom. Housing Fees

Each of MSOE’s three co-ed residence halls has both single and double rooms on each floor, and residents may choose the floor style they prefer. However, Regents Hall and single rooms are typically available only for upperclassmen.

Room Rates: 2014-2015

Double room:
RWJ/MLH: $1,813/qtr
Regents: $2,031/qtr

Single room:
RWJ/MLH: $2,352/qtr
Regents: $2,588/qtr

Residence Hall Policies

The Milwaukee School of Engineering policy requires that: All unmarried freshman (0-39 credits earned) and sophomores (40-87 credits earned) under 21 years of age and whose primary family residence is more than 50 miles away either must live with parent(s), guardian(s), grandparent(s), brother or sister or in the residence halls.

Exceptions to this requirement may be granted to individuals on a case-by-case basis by the Director of Residence Life. These requests must be sent to

* Residents should be aware of space limitations. There is no storage space other than your room.
**Residents may also order premium channel service through Time Warner Cable.

Customizing my room

Some residents may wish to include some form of loft/bunk bed, deck, divider, cabinetry, or shelving in their living environment. Here is a room diagram (PDF) to give you an idea of your space. All lofts/bunk beds must be rented.

Visit College Products to view the wide array of college essentials. The company offers rental and purchase items, along with free delivery to campus on larger items such as lofts, futons and mini fridges.

Loft rentals feature:

  • Five adjustable height settings
  • Weight tested up to 2,000 pounds
  • Uses school-supplied bed frame and mattress

Food Service
The RWJ Cafeteria is located on the ground floor of Johnson Hall. It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner Monday through Friday, and brunch and dinner Saturday and Sunday. Roscoe’s, a fast food facility, is located on the ground floor of Regents Hall and Skylight Marketplace is located in the Student Life and Campus Center.

Raider Plan
The debit card plan used on copiers, vending machines, laundry machines, at the bookstore and dining facilities, and various off-campus locations.

Debit card (Raider Plan)/Coin operated washers and dryers are located in the basement of both Loock Hall and Johnson Hall/Regents Hall.

TV lounges are located on ground floors of Johnson and Loock Hall.

A game room with a pool table and TV is located on the ground floor of Regents Hall.

A study lounge is located on 12th floor of Loock Hall

Beginning Fall 2013, all MSOE students will be able to park on campus in our new parking complex. Contact the Public Safety Department  at (414) 277-7161 for more information.

Cable TV
Time Warner Cable’s basic service is provided at no charge. Premium services may be obtained directly from Time Warner at an additional cost.

Two RJ45 connections are available in each room for access to Internet and interconnection between rooms for work groups.

Sporting equipment
Sporting equipment, such as racquetball racquets, footballs, and soccer balls, are available to all residents at no charge in the lobby of Johnson Hall.

Mail is delivered to resident mailboxes once each weekday. Packages are received through the U.S. Postal Service, UPS and others. Residents are notified by card that they have a package and it may be picked up at the mailroom on the ground floor of Johnson Hall during posted hours. Packages not claimed within five working days will be returned to the sender.

Official postal service pick-up boxes are located in the lobby of each residence hall. A U.S. Post Office is located at the corner of Jackson and Juneau Streets, about two blocks east of the residence halls.
